Family Holidays Are More Fun With a Themed Vacation

A great concept for family vacations is the themed holiday. These holidays offer great activities that will keep the children occupied and give the adults peace of mind. My family and I tried a "Wild West" holiday and we couldn't have been happier. The whole theme was based on the Old West, and we visited Dodge City where cowboys once roamed and then went to Colorado to see the areas where the Pueblo Indians lived. There are many options in this area that keep within the theme.

One of the most popular theme holidays is Disney. Disney World in Florida is the dream of every child and most adults. The array of attractions is mind boggling: MGM Studios, Universal Studios, Epcot Center and the Magic Kingdom are only a few that are right within the park. Without travelling far, you can also visit Sea World, the Kennedy Space Center and more.

If you want to escape the cold northeast winter, try a holiday in warm and sunny California. San Diego and its environs are a great spot with lots to do. The San Diego Zoo is world famous, Sea World has attractions that both children and adults enjoy and Legoland is great if you have small children. Anaheim and Los Angeles, a short drive north, offer the vacationing family California Adventure Theme Park, Universal Studios, Magic Mountain, and of course, Disneyland. Once you are tired of sightseeing and activities, there are lots of beaches to just relax on. If you want to see more of the beautiful state of California, visit the spectacularly beautiful region north of San Francisco. San Simeon, Carmel and the wonderful drive along the Monterey road are great attractions of this region.

Another idea that we enjoyed as a themed vacation was a history tour of the East Coast. If you want your children to see history come alive, this is a great trip. Historic sites such as Mount Vernon, George Washington's home in Virginia, colonial Williamsburg and the great capital of our nation, Washington D.C. are great spots for children to learn. Visiting the Washington Monument, the White House, the memorials to the presidents, Arlington Cemetery and of course, the Smithsonian were great experiences. It can take days to see everything the Smithsonian has to offer, so you have to choose which interests you and your family the most. All through this area you will be greeted with southern hospitality. Then you can take a break from all of this learning by bringing the family to Hershey, Pennsylvania. Here you will see everything looking like candy, including the street lights.

Another great idea for a themed vacation is national parks and monuments. Our nation is blessed with so many natural wonders that you can make three or four vacations out of this idea, but for starts, be sure to visit the Grand Canyon, the Petrified Forest National Park in Arizona and Yellowstone National Park with its famous geyser, Old Faithful.

Vacations such as this will build a lifetime of family memories together.
